The Dougly Project

Apr 16, 2007

My Brother took off to the states for a couple years and wasn’t able to make it to Christmas and other family stuff. So I built him this interactive photo site with a character of him walking along photos of events he missed.

Wanted it to be a fun site so its has rough stick figure drawings combined with photo heads. As he walks along people from the photos say stuff.

This is a little site I did for my 2 nephews. Wanted to make a simple site with games and activity teaching them abc’s, numbers and drawing.

The Irregular Story - 2005

Sep 25, 2006

imageOne of the most recent and ambitious projects I’ve done. This project idea was to get users to upload their own story composed out of text and supplied imagery. You could input text, pick images, compose it and then submit to the site. The latest submission is presented on the home page and the other go into an archive. Imagery was pretty quirky so the story’s we’re all pretty similar.

This was my first attempt at a dynamic backend using php and submission forms. It’s using txt files as a database so its pretty inefficient plus the user interface to pick & compose is not so good. After the fact and getting feedback it could be built much simpler as well as give the user more freedom to add more of their own story parts.

At some point I’d like to rebuild this one and make it that much better.

Rot - 2004

This was a animation I did about things growing then rotting away… all the while as we’re watching. Its a big file (5mgs) so it take’s some time to load.

Windy City - 2003

Sep 25, 2006

While I lived in Lethbridge AB one summer I went around taking pictures of the city at 3:00 in the morning as well as photos of the old style signage painted on the older downtown buildings.

Took them all and placed them in this strange interface that is constantly changing (lethbridge is always windy). Its all random as it cycles through the sets…need to click on the blue thing that’s animating to change the sets…not really user friendly.

I’d try to explain this one but really can’t…not sure what I was thinking (or on). It does feature a Tar Bucket original song though!

GNR - 2002

Sep 25, 2006

imageSchool project concerning genetic, nano and cybernetic technology all applied to the human body. It’s pretty negative story as it allows you to add and changes the three technologies (making the human body better) but as you mess about more and more you lose control until you have not control at all.

Frog Legs - 2001

Sep 23, 2006

School project exploring sound and user interface. On a artistic side it was built comparing the human body with mechanical parts along with living parts. Overall it was made to be quirky interactive story with the old 1900’s phonograph music.
